An organization forged in the fires of war, the United Nations's sole purpose was to ameliorate the shortcomings of the League of Nations and serve as a dais for the discussion of intercontinental affairs. In order to make this dream a reality, representatives from twenty-six nations gathered on January 1, 1942 to pledge their nation's commitment in combating the Axis Powers from 1939 to 1945.
