The Secretariat is an international staff working in duty stations around the world. It services the other principal organs of the United Nations and administers them. The head of the Secretariat is the Secretary-General, who is appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council.
The Secretariat is based in the United Nations Headquarters Building. This building houses the administrative personnel of the United Nations and has become a worldwide symbol of the United Nations.

Ban Ki Moon is the eighth and current Secretary-General. Over the past nine years, he has focused on global climate change, economic turmoil, epidemics, and increasing demands of food, water and energy.
