One of the primary focuses of the United Nations is human rights. A total of nine documents are currently in force regarding human rights, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is the main body when responding to emergencies causing human suffering. It is a part of the UN Secretariat.

The United Nations Human Rights Council was formed in 2006 by the General Assembly. It succeed the UN Commission on Human Rights and is currently the primary body regarding humanitarian affairs.
